Play Dawn Patrol at the Royal Canadian Aviation Museum on Nov. 23, 2025!
Want to take to the skies and learn about WW1 air combat?
The DragonTime Gaming Group is running a DAWN PATROL game at the Royal Canadian Aviation Museum on November 23, 2025 at 11:00-4:00 p.m. and you’re invited! This game is a historically based war game and has been around and is continued to be played since the late 60’s!
Dawn Patrol is a WW1 aerial rpg wargame created by Mike Carr in the late 1960’s. Originally called Fight in the Skies, it was renamed to Dawn Patrol when the game was picked up by TSR in the 70’s. This game simulates the excitement and struggles of WW1 dogfights over Europe and is a great learning experience for aerial combat at that time.
Dawn Patrol is the only game that has been played at every GenCon gaming convention and it is still played by wargamers, online, and run at cons by the Fight in the Skies gaming group. Mike Carr, it’s creator, was one of the earliest employees at TSR (original publisher of Dungeons and Dragons) and was an editor for the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game books at TSR. Mr. Carr still plays and runs this game, and can be found at many conventions taking to the skies and training new pilots/players..
Dawn Patrol is credited as the first game to feature “leveling up” as a game mechanic. As pilots survive they gain flight experience and unlock additional skills in future games, a mechanic that was picked up by Dungeons and Dragons. This reusing and improving your character/pilot had never been seen before in gaming but is now ubiquitous to video games and almost all roleplaying games.
This game is open to the general public but seats are limited to the first 10 people to fill out the form below.
Please note: the cost of the event is your admission to the RCAM museum.
